Media Advisory McSally to Present Purple Heart to WWII Veteran
TUCSON, Ariz. — Tomorrow, August 20, U.S. Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) will present 95-year-old World War II veteran, Mr. Walter Ram, with a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster after he was previously denied.
Ram is a WWII combat veteran and P.O.W. Survivor of Stalag 17B, one of the notorious German POW camps during WWII. He enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps at the age of 16 and served as a B-17E radio operator and gunner for nearly five years. During his sixth bombing mission, Ram and the rest of his aircrew were shot down in Kiel, Germany, where he began his year and a half as a POW.
The Purple Heart presentation is a culmination of the persistent efforts of McSally and her team to award one of Arizona’s great war heroes with the appropriate accolades.
