  • Applications still being accepted for Mesa CARES Small Business Reemergence Program

    Mesa, AZ – Mesa small businesses financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic still have time to seek help with up to 90 days of utility and rent/facilities expenses. Applications for the Mesa CARES Small Business Reemergence Program are being accepted until Sunday, May 24 at 5 p.m. at www.MesaAZ.gov/CARESBizGrant.

    “We have heard from a number of small business owners but we want to make sure that all eligible businesses fill out the forms online before the deadline,” Mayor John Giles said. “Grants are available to help small businesses reemerge from the economic challenges brought on by the pandemic.”

    The following documents are needed to complete the application:

    • Applicants must submit a W-9. If you don’t have one, you can find this simple form at the IRS website https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf
    • If you are requesting commercial mortgage assistance, you must provide a bill or statement dated after March 1, 2020 showing your mortgage payment
    • If you are requesting rental assistance, you must provide a bill or invoice dated after March 1, 2020 showing your rental amount or a copy of your current lease
    • If requesting assistance for utilities, you must provide a copy of one bill dated after March 1, 2020 for each utility.
    • If you have not provided at least two pieces of documentation that verify your Mesa business address, you must upload additional documentation that matches the business address listed on the application. In this case, other acceptable forms of documentation include, but are not limited to, Arizona business licenses, articles of incorporation or other proof from the Arizona Corporation Commission, last submitted tax return or recent supplier invoices

     

    The application for the Mesa CARES Small Business Reemergence Program can be found at www.MesaAZ.gov/CARESBizGrant in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Vietnamese. Anyone needing help with their forms can contact the Mesa CARES Community Resources Call Center at (480) 644-CARE. The call center is open seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

    Following the application deadline, the City anticipates that the evaluation period will run approximately seven to ten days, during which time City Council will be presented with recommendations. Applicants should check online at  www.mesaaz.gov/MesaCARES for program updates. Grant amounts are undetermined at this time.

    Eligible businesses must be physically located in the City of Mesa and not a recipient of CARES Act funding through the Small Business Administration,  Paycheck Protection Program, Economic Injury Disaster Loans Emergency Advance or other federal program.

    The Mesa CARES Small Business Reemergence Program is part of the Mesa CARES Initiative that supports individuals, families and businesses impacted by COVID-19. Funding comes from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
