MESA, Ariz. — July 20, 2021 — Mesa Community College is one of five Chapter of the Year recipients selected from among more than 350 international chapters by Net Impact, a global community of emerging leaders who aspire to be effective drivers of economic, social, and environmental change. Chosen in the Undergraduate category, the MCC Center for Community & Civic Engagement’s chapter was recognized for making significant contributions to the community by hosting events focused on democracy and partnering with the nonprofit Feed My Starving Children to host one of the largest service day events in the college’s history.

“We are so pleased the MCC Net Impact Chapter is recognized as a 2020 – 2021 Chapter of the Year,” said Debra Ohlinger, MCC Net Impact Civic Engagement program coordinator. “We’ve received a Gold chapter award each year since 2018. Our chapter’s engagement strategy effectively connected current members and the larger community to ways civic engagement and community service can be incorporated into their daily lives. The chapter conducted long-term and short-term projects helping our students become more engaged citizens while tying the activities to academic learning.”

Net Impact 2020-2021 Chapter of the Year distinctions were also bestowed upon Northwestern University - Kellogg Graduate School of Management; Indian School of Business; New York City Professional Chapter; and the Amsterdam Professional Chapter.

Net Impact said winning chapters were chosen based on their leadership, local impact, and contribution to the broader Net Impact community. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, these chapters demonstrated resilience and inspired change on today’s most pressing issues.
