  • SENIOR LIVING COMMUNITY CELEBRATES VACCINE’S ARRIVAL The Summit at Sunland Springs Begins COVID-19 Vaccinations

PHOENIX, Ariz. – As a difficult year draws to a close, residents and staff at The Summit at Sunland Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care center in Mesa got a welcome holiday surprise as they began to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as a part of Phase 1 of its national distribution.
Staff began receiving the vaccine on December 22. Residents will be vaccinated at a free upcoming clinic in partnership with CVS.
The vaccine brings a welcome reprieve to residents, who have spent much of the last year in isolation due to their high-risk for contracting COVID-19, as well as the caregivers and staff who have worked tirelessly to follow strict safety regulations put in place to protect the health of their residents.
“Our team has done an amazing job this year not only in going the extra mile to make sure we’re meeting every possible safety standard for our residents, but also in bringing a spirit of fun and positivity to our community each day,” says Kristie Stark, executive director at The Summit at Sunland Springs. “Knowing that the first vaccines are being administered has created a palpable sense of hope.”
Considering the high-risk factors COVID-19 presents to seniors and those in the healthcare industry, senior living centers like The Summit at Sunland Springs have been doubly affected by the pandemic. Vaccinations allow residents to emerge from the isolated quarantine that they spent the majority of 2020 in and resume their favorite pastimes, including group activities and family visits. It is also a boon for the safety of their employees, and for the wider community:
“We hope that this will ease the minds of those people who have been wanting to join our community but haven’t because of COVID concerns,” Stark says.  “Once our staff and residents have been inoculated, our facilities will be exceptionally safe for anyone looking to move into our assisted living center or to address age-related cognitive decline with our Memory Care Services.”
