The Mesa Chamber Healthcare Committee met on January 11, 2024, on the topics of National Blood Donor Month and Mental Health.

A special appreciation goes out to Angelina and her team at Vitalant for enlightening us on the significance of life-saving blood donations during January’s National Blood Donor Month. In collaboration with Vitalant, the Mesa Chamber successfully organized a blood drive on January 17, where our incredible Mesa Chamber family generously contributed 14 units, potentially saving numerous lives in the coming weeks. A heartfelt thanks to all who donated or offered their support. Be on the lookout for more details about our next blood drive scheduled for May 15.

A tremendous shout-out to Jeff Bayer from Copa Health for his presentation on Copa’s community-driven initiative addressing mental health. Copa has partnered with various organizations to create PSA announcements, weekly webinars, live in-person events, and more, all aimed at raising awareness about mental health importance and providing valuable resources to the community. Those interested in getting involved or learning more should reach out to Jeff Bayer at jeffrey.bayer@copahealth.org.

Following the monthly committee meeting, a couple of our Mesa Chamber Healthcare Committee members participated in a roundtable meeting with Laura Flannigan from Senator Sinema’s Office on January 18, 2024, hosted by the Mesa Chamber of Commerce. The discussion centered around the CMS proposed rule on minimum staffing standards and transparency in Medicaid funding allocation for direct patient care. The committee is actively working to identify solutions in this and similar areas.

Make sure to mark your calendars for the next monthly Healthcare Committee Meeting on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 8:00 to 9:00 AM at the Mesa Chamber. This meeting will feature a special speaker from the American Heart Association, who will delve into the topic of American Heart Month.
