The Mesa Veterans Program Committee met on Thursday, February 15 with many group updates. Committee Staff Liaison, Mayra Leon Sanchez, provided the latest updates on the Hometown Heroes Banner Program. While many applications have been submitted, interested community members are encouraged to apply by clicking here.

Bob Nelson, the Director of Communications at the Mesa Chamber, presented news on a generous eyeglasses donation from Walmart. Committee members are actively organizing an event to ensure this donation is optimally utilized to benefit veterans in need of eyeglasses. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.

Furthermore, several committee members took the opportunity to highlight their upcoming events. For instance, About You Senior Placement and Resources will be having their First Senior Conference on April 19th at The Post, covering topics ranging from mental health to successful aging. The Southwest Veterans Chamber is planning a non-profit event at the end of April, with more details forthcoming. Additionally, ASU has extended invitations to veterans for participation in multiple events including: the Women’s Veteran VA Healthcare Panel Discussion (February 29), the Arizona Veterans Choir performance (March 2), and a Veteran Recreation Fair (March 23). Lastly, the AZURA Vets Coalition will offer peer support at Jarrod’s from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on both February 13th and 27th.
