Healthcare Committee: May 2025 Recap
This month, the Healthcare Committee focused on Mental Health Awareness Month, bringing special attention to the importance of mental wellness in our community.
As part of the discussion, the committee welcomed a presentation from the Heal the Hero Foundation. This organization supports the mental health and well-being of first responders, veterans, and other everyday heroes—most recently, placing a strong focus on police officers and firefighters.
The foundation offers innovative, technology-based programming designed to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. Alicia and Joe from Heal the Hero shared compelling data from a recent evaluation of 42 police department participants, completed as of May 1, 2025. The results showed a 58% reduction in trauma symptoms, 45% improvement in sleep, and 14% boost in memory.
Following the presentation, Jeff Bayer provided updates from the Mental Health Subcommittee. He shared the initiatives planned throughout May in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. These include a series of public service announcements (PSAs), a Chamber-produced podcast series, and a mental health web series. The web series will cover key topics such as Stop the Stigma, Navigating the Mental Health System, Empowering Each Other, and Caring for the Caregiver.
Looking ahead, planning for Mental Health Awareness Month 2026 is already underway. Anyone interested in joining the Mental Health Subcommittee is encouraged to reach out to Mayra at mleonsanchez@mesachamber.org.
