Meet the Member: Canvas Creek Team Building

Canvas Creek Team Building utilizes collaborative art and other unique experiences to foster connections, communication, and collaboration within your team. Most team building is an "event," which means the activity can be completed individually, or everyone faces the same direction. Canvas Creek Team Building is unique because each contribution, no matter how small, is important to the whole.

An experience has a long-lasting effect, often with an artifact (like the art). With their three-stage process, the team has a visceral response to the art and will protect it from threats! That's powerful. No other company uses the process Canvas Creek Team Building has developed. They have three stages, four roles, and one result- a team that feels more connected after the event. They are mobile and will roll into any boardroom, warehouse, or retreat setting to protect the building (with tarps and plastic) and facilitate a process that drives results and laughter.

Karen Grosz

Founder of Canvas Creek Team Building

Canvas Creek Team Building was founded by five-time author and TEDx Speaker, Karen Grosz. Karen and her team began by working with a few teams in Billings, Montana. When Walmart’s corporate office reached out, it sparked a wave of opportunities that led to collaborations with 15 of the Fortune 100 companies. For 14 years, they have operated as a fully mobile studio, and now, in Mesa, Arizona, they are seeking the perfect location for a studio designed to provide a destination experience for teams. They are also preparing to train certified coaches who will bring this proven concept into their own consulting practices.

Company Values

Canvas Creek Team Building believes values should reflect the work a team does, not just be a list of words on the wall.

Their values are:

  • Everybody Loves Bob Ross: Genuine, authentic, creative, Bob Ross taught them that happy trees and mistakes turned into birds is the best way to approach work.
  • Brushes Big and Small: When it's time for change, the size of the brush matters. Tiny brushes bring focus, and big brushes allow for sweeping and dramatic change. Choose wisely.
  • Drip-Free/Drama-Free: They respect the space and the teams they are privileged to visit by never leaving a stain on the building or creating drama instead of camaraderie.
  • Gray Splotches of Collaboration: Everyone's contribution matters, even the one gray stroke of over-stirred paint. It's true both in the mobile art studio and at work.
  • No Ropes, No Crying, No Kumbaya: Great teams are built of shared, collaborative experiences. At Canvas Creek Team Building, they believe in powerful, creative, inspiring results.

Canvas Creek Team Building is committed to being an active part of the community. You’ll see them joining in on local events and festivals for fun, but their most meaningful work happens behind the canvas, with people who are not artists, but want to have a stronger team. Founder Karen shares that only a week after deciding to move to the Phoenix metro area, she arrived and found their new home. "The Mesa Chamber nailed it," she says, "and within hours, I felt like I was building a community around me with their help. We chose to be here, and we are excited to get busy with teams!"
