Mesa Leadership Built a Lasting Tribute

The Mesa Leadership Class of 2026 fundraised for and coordinated the installation of a courtyard for the Mesa Historical Museum’s new Arizona Baseball Museum at 2345 N. Horne.

Each new annual Mesa Leadership class has a signature “homework” assignment that members undertake. They must plan, raise funds for, and execute a community-focused, hands-on project benefitting a nonprofit.

The 21-member Mesa Leadership Class of 2026 not only accomplished that, but also built an enduring tribute to baseball’s history in Mesa and Arizona.

It revitalized the courtyard adjacent to the Mesa Historical Museum and the new Arizona Baseball Museum, the state’s first museum dedicated to the sport’s history in Arizona.

“This courtyard is more than just a walkway,” said museum Executive Director Susan Ricci. “It’s a testament to the community that helped make the museum possible.”

A key partner in the project was Ryze Outdoor Creations, a Mesa outdoor design and landscaping company that provided an in-kind donation of design, labor and materials to complete the project, said Mesa Leadership Board Secretary Jill Adair.

“Ryze Outdoor Creations took on the courtyard transformation in its entirety and is using the project as a showcase of its craftsmanship, community commitment and professional expertise for future commercial and civic partnerships,” she said.

The courtyard features a baseball diamond design, a giant concrete baseball, and bricks engraved with names of donors to the Arizona Baseball Museum.

“After years of fundraising and unexpected renovation expenses, we truly didn’t know how we would complete the courtyard,” said Ricci.

Coming up: Pickleball and Networking Night

One of the best parts of the Mesa Leadership Training & Development Program is the people participants meet along the way, and this event offers an opportunity to get to know some of the members who are actively shaping the Mesa community.
